Goshen Baptist Church Faith Statement
The faith statement of Goshen Baptist Church can be summed up by two verses that are found in the Scriptures. In John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." We also read, "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) We believe that salvation can only come through faith in Jesus Christ to anyone who will believe that Jesus Christ is the way to the Father. We also believe that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin and he is the Son of God. Christ was fully human and fully divine. He was sinless and perfect and he is eternal.
We believe that Christ's purpose for coming to the earth was so that he might die for the sins of the world. Jesus not only died for our sins, he was buried and on the third day he arose from the grave. He took our sins upon himself. He endured the punishment we deserved and he died in our place so that we might have eternal life. The death, burial and resurrection of Christ is sufficient in every way for those who believe. When Jesus died on the cross and shed his blood for the sins of the world, the sacrifice was made once for all and never needed to be made again. We believe we serve a risen Savior.
We believe in the Trinity. We believe there is only One God, but He exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Each are equal and co-existent with different attributes and also different aspects, but yet they are One. God is perfect in every way. He has unlimited power and unlimited authority.
